Terms of use & disclaimer

The short version: Platform is free and we work hard to get it right, but it is a guide, not a guarantee. Transport times can be wrong, late or missing. Always check station signs, announcements and official sources before you travel, and stay aware of your surroundings.

Who we are

Platform is a free, non-commercial project operated by Immanuel Lam in Sydney, New South Wales, with co-founder Hunter Balderson. It is not a company or a registered business. It has no advertising and takes no payments. Contact: [email protected].

In these terms, “Platform”, “we” and “us” mean the Platform apps for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android, this website and the people who make them.

Accepting these terms

By using Platform you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Platform.

Not an official service

Platform is an independent app. It is not provided, endorsed, certified or sponsored by Transport for NSW, the NSW Government or any transport operator. Platform cannot sell tickets, answer for services or make decisions about the network. For official information, use Transport for NSW channels and the signs and staff at stations and stops.

Where the data comes from

Platform contains transport data © Transport for NSW, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Platform has modified this data: it combines, filters, reformats and labels it, and estimates some values such as predicted times and trip progress. Transport for NSW gives no warranty about the data. Maps come from Apple, CARTO, OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap contributors. See attribution & legal for details.

Accuracy

Times, vehicle positions, platforms, maps, alerts and journey plans come from third parties or are estimated by Platform. They can be wrong, delayed, incomplete or unavailable, and services can change without notice. Platform labels times as Live, Predicted, Timetable, Stale or Unavailable where it can, so you can judge them, but a label is not a guarantee. Always confirm with official sources, station and stop signs, and staff announcements.

Relying on Platform

Use Platform as a guide. Do not rely on it where a delay or an error could cause you serious loss or harm, such as catching a flight, getting to an exam, an appointment or work on time, or meeting a medical need. Allow extra time for important journeys and have a backup plan. Platform is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call 000.

Stay safe

Do not use Platform while driving, riding a bike or scooter, or doing anything else that needs your full attention. Stay aware of your surroundings, especially near platform edges, roads, crossings and moving vehicles. Follow the directions of transport staff and signs over anything Platform shows. Location and trip tracking features are conveniences, not safety devices.

Trip sharing

A shared trip link shows a summary of your planned trip, not your GPS location, and expires after eight hours or when you stop sharing. Anyone with the link can view it, so only share it with people you trust. Do not use Platform to track or monitor another person.

Acceptable use

Please do not misuse Platform. That includes scraping or bulk downloading data from Platform or its servers, overloading or attacking them, reverse engineering the apps except where the law allows it, getting around security or rate limits, or using Platform to break the law or harm anyone. We may block access that does these things.

Changes and availability

Platform is in beta. Features can change, break or disappear, and we may suspend or stop Platform, or any part of it, at any time and without notice. Beta builds are provided for testing and feedback.

Your rights under Australian law

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded. If a law implies a guarantee we cannot exclude, the rest of these terms apply only to the extent the law permits.

Limits on our liability

Platform is provided free of charge and “as is”. Subject to the section above, and to the extent permitted by law:

• we make no promise that Platform will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose;
• we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of time, missed connections, missed appointments, travel costs, lost income or lost opportunity, arising from your use of, or inability to use, Platform or its data; and
• our total liability to you for all claims connected with Platform is limited to AUD 100.

These limits do not apply to loss caused by our fraud or wilful misconduct, or to any liability the law does not allow us to limit.

Third-party services

Platform relies on services we do not control, including Transport for NSW, Apple, Google, Cloudflare and map providers. Their availability, accuracy and terms are their own. Links to other websites are provided for convenience only.

App stores

If you downloaded Platform from Apple’s App Store or TestFlight, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If you downloaded it from Google Play, Google’s terms for Google Play also apply. Apple and Google are not responsible for Platform or its support.

Age

Platform is for a general audience. If you are under 18, please use it with the permission of a parent or guardian.

Intellectual property

Platform’s name, network mark, design, code and copy belong to its makers. You may use the apps and website for your own personal travel. Transport data remains subject to its own licence.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using Platform after an update, you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
