About Platform

Platform is a free public transport app for Sydney, made by Immanuel Lam and Hunter Balderson. It shows trains, metro, buses, ferries and light rail on one map, and it tells you when a time is live, predicted or from the timetable.

Why we built it

We’ve been annoyed by transport apps for as long as we’ve been catching trains. Half the time you can’t tell whether a time is live or just the timetable, and we never liked the idea of paying a subscription for data Transport for NSW publishes for free.

So we started building our own at an OpenAI Codex event in 2026. The rule is simple: if a time isn’t live, Platform says so. The rest is us fixing the small things that bugged us on our own trips.

How Platform is run

Platform is a non-commercial project. It has no advertising, takes no payments and needs no account. It is independent and is not made, endorsed or operated by Transport for NSW. Transit data is © Transport for NSW and used under CC BY 4.0.
