Sydney public transport app

Live, or just
the timetable?

Platform is a Sydney transport app for iPhone and Android. It plans trips on trains, metro, buses, ferries and light rail, then follows you while you ride. If it says the next T1 at Central is two minutes away, it also says whether that’s live or just the timetable. It’s free, with no ads and no account.

WHAT IT DOES ON A TRIP

01 BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Where you change,
and when.

Plan a journey and Platform lays out every leg in order, including the walk at each change. Save the trips you do every week and they're one tap away next time.

Saved trips and live data cost nothing

IPHONE AND ANDROID

Two apps,
not one app wrapped twice.

We write Platform separately for each phone, so it uses the controls you already know. Hunter joined to build the Android app. Both follow your phone into light or dark mode, and so does this page.

ONE TRIP, STEP BY STEP

What a trip looks like.

01

Plan the trip.

Pick where you’re starting and where you’re going. Platform checks every mode and lists the changes in order.

02

NEXT SERVICESLIVEPREDICTEDTIMETABLE

Check the label.

On the departure board and in your trip, each time says Live, Predicted or Timetable. You can tell straight away how much to trust it.

03

● ● : ● ●

Put the phone away.

On iPhone, a Live Activity shows the next step on the Lock Screen. On Android, an ongoing notification does the same job.

04

TMchange here

Make the change.

When you get off to change, the next service and where it leaves from are already on screen.

05

ON YOUR DEVICE

Get there.

Completed trips stay on your phone for 90 days. On iPhone, Platform can use them to suggest a trip you take often.

ONE MAP

From the wharf
to the bus stop.

A trip from a Circular Quay ferry to a bus shouldn’t mean switching apps. Every mode sits on one map in Platform, next to the departures and your trip.

Illustration, not live vehicle positions. Tap the sky for New Year’s Eve.

PRIVACY

We don’t need
to know who you are.

Where you’ve been stays on your phone.

When you plan a trip, your start and destination go to Transport for NSW through our server. The beta apps send us analytics so we can find bugs. The public release won’t.

THE DATA

It’s a big network.
Here’s how big.

Platform reads the open data Transport for NSW publishes. These are our own counts from it, taken in early September.

38,550unique location IDs in the catalogue

Catalogue snapshot, 5 September 2026. Platforms grouped and duplicate IDs removed. Catalogue coverage does not guarantee live data at every location.

This is a dated production sample, not a live counter. Scheduled runs are passenger-eligible trips, counted once per mode, trip ID and service date. Realtime cancellations are not subtracted. Fresh positions use the vehicle timestamp, not the time of our last request.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Before you
head out.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Everything in the app is free, including saved trips, live data, Live Activities on iPhone and tracking notifications on Android. There are no ads and nothing to pay for, and we don’t plan to add paid tiers.

Can I rely on the times?

Mostly, but not blindly. Times come from Transport for NSW and they can be late, wrong or missing. Check station signs, announcements and official sources before you travel, especially when you’re cutting it fine. See the terms of use and disclaimer.

Are iPhone and Android the same?

Both are native apps, with controls designed for their platform. iPhone supports Live Activity tracking, Dynamic Island and Apple Watch. Android uses an ongoing notification and a journey widget. Some beta features differ.

Is every departure time live?

No. Live, Predicted, Timetable, Stale and Unavailable are kept distinct where Platform can tell. If TfNSW cannot provide fresh data, Platform aims to show the source and age rather than present old data as live.

What happens when I share a trip?

A beta trip link contains a short-lived trip snapshot and never includes your GPS position. It expires after eight hours, or you can stop sharing earlier. Saved trips can sync through your private iCloud account on Apple devices; completed-trip history stays on the device.

Why a beta?

We’re testing Platform on real trips, ours and yours, before a public release. The iPhone and Android beta builds can change, and Android Closed test access requires an eligible account. App analytics are collected during beta testing and will be absent from production.

More questions

WHO’S BUILDING PLATFORM

Made by two Sydney commuters who got sick of guessing.

We’ve been annoyed by transport apps for as long as we’ve been catching trains. Half the time you can’t tell whether a time is live or just the timetable, and we never liked the idea of paying a subscription for data Transport for NSW publishes for free.

Immanuel started building Platform at an OpenAI Codex event in 2026, and Hunter joined later to bring it to Android. The rule is simple: if a time isn’t live, Platform says so. The rest is us fixing the small things that bugged us on our own trips, and making it something you actually like opening.
